One-time development, multi-platform adaptation: Matter module solution HM-MT7203

 

To address the development needs of Matter products, HOPERF has recently launched a new Matter module, the HM-MT7203.

 

This is a Matter over Wi-Fi wireless communication module based on the 2.4 GHz band, supporting both Wi-Fi and BLE protocols. It integrates a 32-bit ARMv8-M Star (M33F) MCU (320MHz) and a comprehensive set of peripheral interfaces.

 

It also integrates 4MB of Flash and 640KB of RAM on-chip, providing a relatively complete hardware foundation for Matter applications and product function development.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, the HM-MT7203 also supports two antenna options: PCB onboard antenna and IPEX external antenna, which can be selected according to the terminal product structure and wireless performance requirements.

In addition, the HM-MT7203 supports two typical development methods. The first method is to connect an external master controller via serial port.

 

The product's original MCU continues to perform the product's own functions (such as sensor acquisition, motor control, product business logic, etc.), while the HM-MT7203 is responsible for wireless connectivity functions such as Matter, Wi-Fi, and BLE. The two communicate with each other via serial port protocol.

 

This architecture effectively separates Matter firmware functionality from product functionality, which is beneficial for traditional smart home products to quickly add Matter capabilities.

 

The second approach is the SoC (System-on-a-Chip) approach, where both product functions and Matter functions are implemented by the main chip inside the

 

HM-MT7203. For products that want to further reduce the number of system components and reduce PCB space usage, this solution can make full use of the MCU and peripheral resources inside the module.

 

From "adding Matter capabilities to existing products" to "building new products directly based on Matter modules", the HM-MT7203 can provide more flexible product architecture options.

 

The HM-MT7203 is designed for overseas expansion of smart home products, connecting to a wider range of product forms.

 

Based on the HM-MT7203's excellent wireless communication performance, highly integrated hardware architecture, comprehensive Matter protocol compatibility, and efficient development capabilities, its application scenarios in the smart home field are very extensive, for example:

 

The HM-MT7203 can be applied to products such as smart lights and smart switches to enable network control of lighting devices and access to different smart home ecosystems through Matter.

 

After integrating the HM-MT7203, smart sockets can access the home network via Wi-Fi and, combined with the product's own control circuit, achieve intelligent upgrades to the socket.

 

 

 

After integrating the HM-MT7203, smart door locks and doorbells can also utilize Wi-Fi and BLE capabilities to provide network connectivity and configuration infrastructure for smart door locks, doorbells, and other devices; smart curtains can combine the rich PWM, GPIO, UART, and other peripheral resources of the HM-MT7203 to provide wireless intelligent control capabilities for curtain motor products.

 

In addition, IoT devices such as thermostats and sensors can also utilize the rich peripheral resources of the HM-MT7203 to expand product functionality.
